multi-trip cancellation & interruption insurance

A perfect offer to everybody travelling several times per year. If cancellation or interruption of your trip results in cancellation costs or additional costs, your multi-trip travel insurance is applicable.

Valid for an unlimited number of trips within per insurance year:

  • all travel bookings made before insurance booking
  • travel bookings already existing, if insurance booking is made within 30 days after travel booking (travel booking not longer than 30 days before departure: insurance booking with 3 days)
  • interruption insurance for max. 56 days per trip

The multi-trip policy will automatically prolong, if not cancelled at the end of an insurance year.

higher travel prices:
If the price of a trip exceeds 2,000 € (single person) or 5,000 € (families), please make an additional booking for travel cancellation insurance in the amount of the remaining difference. In total your trip will be fully insured that way.

definition of family:

  • max. 2 adults + children up to 21 years of age living in a joint household
  • 2 adults without children, living in a joint household

Members of the family travelling alone are insured with 50 % of the insurance sum of their familiy policy.

You will easily find the right premium for your trip by taking these hints:

  • This Multi-trip policy is a travel cancellation insurance.
  • Insurer is HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung AG.
  • Applicable to all kinds of journey (as flight, cruise, coach tour, round trip, package tour) with unlimited duration.
  • Your multi-trip policy is applicable to all trips, which are booked at the time of or later as your policy has been booked (no retroactive insurance coverage).
  • maximum trip lenght: unlimited
  • booking period: at any time before your first departure (no retroactive coverage)
  • Definition of family: 1 adults + 1-4 underage children or 2 adults + 1-3 underage children. Full-aged children included during their formation. It is not neccessary that the persons insured by this multi-trip policy are related to each other.
  • Your multi-trip includes trip prices up to 2,000 € (single persons) or 5,000 € (families). If the price of a trip exceeds these amounts, please make an additional booking for travel cancellation insurance in the amount of the remaining difference. In total your trip will be fully insured that way.
  • Payment of multi-trip policies must be made by direct debit. If a premium is not paid successfully, insurance coverage ends automatically.
  • All multi-trip policies will automatically prolong, if not cancelled at the end of an insurance year.
  • Notice must be given in writing until 3 months before end of the insurance year.

A. cancellation insurance
benefits:

  • refund of cancellation costs according to the service provider´s or tour operator´s cancellation conditions in case of cancellation before departure due to an insured event (see below)
  • refund of additional costs for your outward journey (max. up to costs of cancelling the trip), if your trip starts later than scheduled due to an insured event (see below)
  • refund of additional costs for your outward journey (max. up to costs of cancelling the trip), if your trip starts later than scheduled due to delay of public transport of at least 2 hours and if you miss your booked and insured flight because of this delay.
  • refund of additional costs in case of partly cancellation (e.g. single room supplement)
  • refund of costs for change of booking due to an insured event (max. up to the amount of cancellation costs)
  • refund of costs for change of booking due to any other reason (max. 30 €)

insured events (reasons for cancellation):

  • unexpected severe illness
  • death
  • accident
  • inability to take immunization (excluded: failure of immunization, lack of adequate antibody value)
  • pregnancy (if not already medically diagnosed at the time of insurance booking)
  • fracture of prostheses (excluded: dental prostheses)
  • essential damage to properties (burglary, natural disaster) of at least 2,500 €
  • unemployment due to compulsory redundancy (file for unemployment)
  • reemployment
  • (voluntary) job change
  • short-time work
  • repeat examination at a university, college or school during of within 14 days after the insured journey time
  • failed moving up (if the insured journey was a school trip)
  • unexpected draft, reserve duty training exercise or civilian service
  • delivery of a divorce suit
  • summons, which cannot be postponed

B. interruption insurance
benefits:

  • in case of delayed departure: refund of travel services not used
  • in case of premature break (termination): refund of additional costs for return travel as well as refund of travel price (100 % whithin first half of the trip, max. first 8 days; proportional when breaking later)
  • in case of interruption at your holiday resort: refund of travel services not used, additional costs for catching up a round trip or cruise
  • in case of late return travel: refund of additional costs for return travell
  • additional hotel costs, if a fellow traveller is not transportable due to accident or illness and therefore unable to travel back as scheduled 

insured events (full or partly interruption / break):

  • unexpected severe illness
  • death
  • accident
  • inability to take immunization (excluded: failure of immunization, lack of adequate antibody value)
  • pregnancy (if not already medically diagnosed at the time of insurance booking)

deductible: no deductible

pre-existing conditions: If an illness is already existing at the time of insurance booking, insurance coverage also for this illness is only given, if this illness hasn´t been medically treated due to acute medical conditions within 6 months before insurance booking (routine examination unconsidered ).

co-insured relatives:
Cancellation of your ticket also is insured, if you have to cancel due to one of these insured events occuring to your relatives: unexpected severe illness, death, accident, unability to take immunization, pregnancy, fracture of prostheses.

relatives: spouses, partner of a cohabitation, children, adopted children, stepchildren, fostered children, parents, adoptive parents, step-parents, foster-parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, parents-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law. Additionally, but only in case of death: aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces.

fellow travellers:

  • Up to 5 persons travelling together are insured between themselves - whether or not they related to each other.
  • In case of more than 5 persons travelling together, only relatives are insured among each other.

Please consider the following information in the event of damage:

  • In the insured event, please make your cancellation at the airline, travel agency or tour operator without undue delay in order to keep cancellations costs as low as possible. Additional cancellation costs will not be refunded, if you wait and see if your journey might be possible in the end.
  • If you have to cancel due to unexpected illness, please see a doctor at first who has to state your incapability to travel. There is no insurance coverage, if you first cancelled your booking and then visited a doctor later on.

In the event of damage, the following documents must be sent to HanseMerkur: copy of the travel confirmation or invoice, insurance policy, your full address and bank account details (incl. IBAN and BIC/SWIFT). In addition and depending from the damage event, the following documents are to be submitted:

  • all original booking and cancellation document
  • the doctor´s documents showing diagnose and dates of treatment (illness)
  • death certificate in the event of death
  • in the event of unemployment: written compulsory redundancy and file for unemployment benefit
  • in the event of reemployment: written confirmation of the employer stating the start of the employment contract
  • in the event of (voluntary) job change: written statements of old and new employer also stating the employment probation
  • in the event of repeat examination: written confirmation of the university, college or school stating the failed examination as well as date of repeat examination
  • in the event of draft, reserve duty training or civilian service: written confirmation of the authority

Please consider the following information in the event of damage:

travel interruption (break) insurance (cancellation after departure)

  • Depending on kind of damage event, various costs can be refunded: additional costs for return travel in case of premature or late return travel, refund of travel services not used due to an interruption of your journey, refund of travel price.
  • Please make your cancellation at the service provider, travel agency or tour operator without undue delay in the insured event in order to keep cancellations costs as low as possible. Additional cancellation costs will not be refunded, if you wait and see if your journey might be possible in the end.
  • If you have to cancel due to unexpected illness, please see a doctor at first who has to state your uncapability to travel. There is no insurance coverage, if you first cancelled your booking and then visited a doctor later on.
  • In case of premature or late return travel due to an insured event we recommend to contact your travel agency, tour operator or insurer HanseMerkur to agree the neccassary steps to do and to make any possible changes in bookings comfortable for you.
